Arbak Khachatryan: “There is no longer even anything to be happy about” — 1in.am

In the view of Moscow-based independent human rights advocate Arbak Khachatryan, the outgoing year was full of losses for Armenia. The human rights advocate expressed hope that at least the young people would be able to achieve something in the coming year.

Speaking with First Informational, A. Khachatryan said that outside influence on Armenia in 2014 could be destructive: “Those scum have houses everywhere; they can settle abroad too. I feel sorry for the young people. Now, since not everything is in the hands of the young, it is very dangerous. The actions of the young people, even the journalists, are very encouraging… this difficult situation is going to explode anyway, possibly as soon as next year, but which direction it will take and what form it will assume are unclear,” he said.

For the coming year, 2014, A. Khachatryan expressed one wish: “My only dream: we always joyfully wished one another a Happy New Year—it is our custom—but there is no longer even a reason to rejoice. I wish that Armenian families and young people could find a way out of this difficult situation with small, very small losses.

That is all I wish: that every young woman finds her partner, can start a family in Armenia, and lives happily with her children. May she never find herself in a situation where she has to leave Armenia, and may she be able to be the master of her own country. May every child feel that their parent is strong, that they can do anything, rather than relying on some oligarch to come and hand out notebooks in schools.
